Week Three: Thursday
In today's studio class we had a in class interim presentation where we were able to critique and gain feedback on how our spreads/layouts were going. This was a very critical studio lesson for me as it allowed me to see what was expected design wise while also gaining perspective into what wasnt working and what was working for me.
From this studio class I have decided that just focusing on ‘Gin and Tonic’ is too restrictive in the way of clearly being able to decipher three different activities. This was something I was worried about previously so I decided I need to change my topic.
After talking to Matt I was able to get some good constructive feedback and will now look at the same locations, but change my Gin distillery to the ‘Havana Bar’ with the focus being on spirits and how they have the differences between social aspects. I will look at how Havana Bar is somewhere that you can go with a large group of people; The Arborist is somewhere for a smaller group of friends and lastly the Library being a place for a date therefore two people.
Other constructive feedback included changing my library cocktail illustration to something less sexually eluded and adding more vibrant colours to my arborist illustration. I could also look at texture and the use of simplifying down my illustrations. Lastly I need to stare away from using harsh blacks in my imagery as it takes visually disrupts the flow and emotions of the imagery. One of my spreads was put up in front of the class and it was helpful to gain feedback from peers.
